ABOUT

Violette Records ethos is rooted in the belief that music and art generate life-affirming value for the artist and their audience. As an artist working alongside the Violette team, Jim McCulloch and I can wholeheartedly vouch that the experience of releasing music with Matt and Pascal is nothing but life affirming.
Working with Pascal to create a visual identity for our ‘Descendant’ LP has been an absolute pleasure. Pascal is a brilliant communicator on all levels, his professionalism as a creative shines and his approach to the design process is one of ease, both fluid and enjoyable.
As a visual artist I strive to maintain a connection to the music created within the Snowgoose projects by incorporating an original print within the digital LP artwork. The sleeves from our previous releases ‘Harmony Springs’ 2012 and ‘The Making of You’ 2020 have taken on various forms from relief to screen printing based on my art practice at the time.
Pascal beautifully understood the importance of the connection between visual art and the music. I am very grateful for his vision in representing the themes explored within the context of ‘Descendant’ – love and loss and the space between. The music laying bare the complexities of grief, the beauty and fragility of impermanence.
It felt important that beyond the offering of the original screen-printed artwork Pascal had creative freedom to manipulate the artwork for the context of the LP inner and outer sleeve. To begin to explore the creative landscape I provided the below brief, from there Pascal worked his magic…. An abstract visual language of shape, form and colour makes sense to us for this artwork. Shape – Circles, symbols of unity held within a Square. Form – the motif in repetition, with layers of overlaid colour offering depth and movement, representing the cyclical nature of life. Colour – 70’s palette, a nod to Snowgoose’s musical influences.
On receiving the ‘Descendant’ artwork from Pascal Jim gasped…that says it all!!
Forever grateful for your beautiful work Pascal.
Thank you x
