ABOUT
—
This was an interesting and somewhat unusual project to work on with Pascal, because the principal album cover design was already done – by my friend, graphic designer Sarah Chesworth using a posed photo taken by my son on our family holiday in the south west of France last summer. When it came to adapting the design for the vinyl, Sarah was unavailable, so I asked Pascal to step in at short notice.
I knew he liked the design, because I had shown him the CD advance version already, which is why I thought it was OK to ask him! He was his usual amenable and enthusiastic self, and replied immediately in the affirmative, responding to my verbose explanations, suggestions and directions with the calm and professional understanding which years of working with artists of all temperaments has given him. Every remark is given due consideration, no detail is unimportant.
The main part of the work was the insert, which only existed in my mind and I didn’t know what it looked like, only the elements that I wanted it to contain. So I sent over my phone photos from the recording sessions, along with the lyrics and the credits and he put them all together in such a way that it perfectly complimented the outer sleeve and also brought even more of a warm, intimate and (excuse the pun) personal feel to the artwork, which in turn reflects and complements the music inside.
The vinyl edition of the album is now a complete package, thanks to the expertise, sensitivity and consummate good taste of Pascal Blua.
Merci cher Monsieur !
